WORST CASE HAPPENED!!!

My whole internal 500GB drive is gone… (No, it’s not damaged but completly empty!)

all 3 partitions: C: Vista, D: Data, E: Games!

Loosing C: would mean I just have to reinstall Vista and 80GB programs.

But loosing D: is the worst case. This means I lost my pictures, wallpaper and so on, texts and stuff from school, music, stuff collected since 5? years or so…

I just booted with a Live-disc wtf???

edit: after a XX-hours work and a not enough hours of sleep a new Vista + SP1 is running with most of the former installed software now.

Yup, losing a whole disk is the worst, I’d usually try to salvage it with some partition recovery software, if it still up and running. Happened to me many times in the past, feels like some part of you just died, its true

That’s why everyone tells to make back-ups. :P If there are some very important data, you could ask a recovery company for help. But that will cost you at least a few hundred euro.

    back-ups , back-ups, 2,5TB files menas I would need the same amount as backup…

I tried Acronis recovery, worked, I could restore C and D
but Vista won’t boot: winload.exe is corrupt.
If I boot with the Vista-DVD and got to the repair functions my Vista-installation doesn’t show up

I have been blessed, I have never had a HD die on me. I do store a lot of my pictures online and back up important stuff once and awhile.

Thinking of getting another external HD … they’re getting cheap now.

    500gb for like 100 bucks

Well the HDD isn’t damaged of course, I reinstalled Vista this night.

100bucks? The most expensive thing I can afford at the moment is a pizza, if I don’t want to touch the reserved money for the preorders lol

I know your feelings.. my brother’s 300GB HDD is also gone..

Fortunately my laptop (which unfortunately is only 100GB T_T) is still safe.. Thinking of buying external now..

You mean your brothers hardrive is broken? or just wiped out like mine yesterday?

Yeah I recommend Western Digital Mybooks, quiet affordable, good quality and a nice design. But
I would like to have a homeserver with a lot of space, providing me with my stuff and backing up everything. But it isnt affordable at the moment^^
