My new secondary/primary? OS (Caused by Danny xD)
Not a lot going on at my blog, right? But in excuse the only thing I can say is that there aren’t many things happening @ hikkys otaku home at them moment. As my readers know, I’m studying for my exams, so I have not much time to think about things I can blog about.
(I’m sry once again it’s not Anime/Manga/Merchandise/… related orz, but besides 3,2GB C74 Dojinshi lying around here there aren’t many things worth mentioning.)
But there is something I would like to mention:
Ohhhh I’m using Mac OS 10.5.4 now!
Yus, a windows “fanboy” @ Apples OS
Read more after the jump… (Apple Users may skip this Blogentry, nothing but old news. For those who would like to have this wallpaper-pack: Click! & Click!)
After seeing several figure reviews by Tokios Trooper Leader No. 1 with a shiny Leopard desktop in the background over the months I wanted to try this OS myself.
As I don’t want to be the protagonist in an public execution at the next Macworld, please don’t ask how, but as you can see above Leopard is running flawlessly at my PC, nearly out of the box.
It’s better to be a pirate than join the navy.
right? xD
I’m using Leo for a week now and until I have to say: Great job, Apple!
The first thing I noticed after the “switch” besides the cool look is …. the speed!
I’m not going to say Vista is that slow. But using a system rated 5,4 @ Vista Ultimate x64 (AMD X2 6000+ 3GHz, ASUS M2N32-SLI Vista Premium Ed., Zotac Geforce 8800 GTS 512 (G92), 4GB OCZ DDR2 800) and using the same system with Leopard I can say this operating system is a Formula 1 car while Vista seems to be a family wagon. Although Vista has a index-based search function Leopards Finder is several times faster (and you can even use it as calculator xD ).
Microsoft, please build Windows 7 Unix based lol, just kidding.
The next important thing for me is TIME MACHINE!
Time Machine is Apples built-in backup solution. Time Machine backs up your system files, applications, accounts, preferences, music, photos, movies, and documents. But what makes Time Machine different from other backup applications is that it not only keeps a spare copy of every file, it remembers how your system looked on a given day — so you can revisit your Mac as it appeared in the past.
Vista has a function like that called “Volumenschattenkopie” … English Vista using readers help me, how is it called in English?
![]()
But its not as well working and easy/convenient to use as Time Machine.
The really cool thing is that you can restore your system on every hardisk if somthing is broken. You just have to boot from the OS X DVD, go to Utilities>Disk Utility>Time Machine Backup. At Vista for example you have to create a Complete PC Backup which isn’t always up to date of course.
The next useful things are Exposé & Places.
With Spaces you can group your application windows at “four desktops”. I haven’t used this feature a lot until now, but it is quiet useful. With Exposé you can hide your application windows to do things on your desktop, highlight a window, or show all windows minimized together (something like Vista Flip 3D but without having to scroll trough all windows). Exposé can also be activated by moving the mouse to a corner of the desktop using a feature called Active Screen Corners. Very useful.
Another feature you can open with an Active Screen Corner is the so called Dashboard.
It lets you arrange useful gadgets, which can be found on the net.
The most useful thing in my opinion is a gadget to show a part of a web site which is important to you, for example the news section @ DC. You can specify the section as you wish @ Safari. (I’m using Firefox 3 @ OSX btw)
Most of you know the Coverflow feature from Itunes. (I think I have to edit my mp3 tags cause Itunes doesn’t use folder.jpg and cover.jpg files)
With Leopard you have a Coverflow-view in every Explorer.. sry Finder-window.
The coolest thing is you can preview files and look at them by pressing the Space-bar!!!
ohhh Haruka is toooo moe for this world <333
ährm… back to the topic: You can view documents for example *pdfs, video files and so on, isn’t that cool?
Although some things look quiet familiar lol, thx Adobe.
There are lots of things I could mention but those 300 new features in Leopard would take a while and would cause hundreds of writing/grammar mistakes ^_^
So will there be a battle at my PC: Vista vs Leopard?
The answer is

I think Leopard and Vista is the best combination you can have! Using the best software from the two worlds is better than sticking with one operating system.
The only problem is that real Apple hardware is so expensive. Besides the case it’s normal cheap hardware!
But my next PC which is honored to stand next to my towers is a Mac Mini! Not that expensive but powerful enough for Leopard / Snow Leopard iMac 24″, maybe.
At the moment I’m looking for Mac software, Keynote for example is really cool, I’ll never use Powerpoint again.
The only things I’m missing now is something like Winamp for OS X (Itunes is just … ) and a free blogging software (writing this @ Vista@ Windows Livewriter). And OS X doesn’t recognize my Creative Zen Vision M 60GB and receiving/sending mails with Apple Mail just works soso with the help of little programms.
Help is appreciated

ossu. Look at you, posting a storm at 5am Austria time. Your eyes must be wanting to start a coup d’etat on your brain by now. D:
I like the post, man, your desktops look spiff, dunno if I’d ever care to run an apple os on a non apple machine, plus it won’t run civ4 orz.
It’s gotta run civ4 if I’m going to run an os, yes civ4 is that important to meh.
Good work though :3
lol yeah, as I mentioned I’m using it as my second operating system atm.
Gaming @ Vista of course (btw: Nvidia released a Beta-Driver a few hours ago, officialy supporting Physx with our graphis cards now–wohooo)
…and yes, my eyes are burning, my Geass is loosing it’s ability
I’ll go to bed now ^^
3,2 of C74 Doujin.. too bad i don’t understand Japanese that i am unable to read those @_@
Yeah same goes for me…I cant read those and therefore booooooring.Just looking at pretty pictures is somewhat boring^^
Yeah we have to get a Japanese language pack for our cyberbrains
Plans are changed: I’m saving money for a 24″ iMac after replacing my current 22″ screen with two 24″ screens.
2x PC 24″ +1x iMac 24″ = Geek Level+125XP
hello there.
you got to be kidding me… are you out of your mind? two 24″ are ok, you’d be twice as cool on behalf of displays than i am right now but what on earth do you need a piece of crap packed in a shiny case for?
i thought we already established with rich that apple = evil.
anyway, enjoy your third-grade OS with more security issues than vista (lol)
nah just kidding, have it like rich.
btw, been reading your blog for quite some time now and it’s not that bad as i’d expected.
now go and study
well, Apple may be evil, but if I have the money I’ll get one
Security issues @ Vista? Well there are less than @XP lol
“btw, been reading your blog for quite some time now and it’s not that bad as i’d expected” I guess I should say thx
and why do ya have a Dutch IP-adress?
